Poker

Using five cards, each player attempts to form the best hand possible. The winning hand is the one that has the highest value and best card.

A flush is a set of five cards of the same suit. A pair is two cards of the same rank. A straight is a set of five cards in a sequential order.

There are many poker variants. One of the most popular is Texas Hold’Em. Texas Hold’Em uses two decks of cards, one deck for the dealer, and one deck for each player.

Each player is dealt five cards, two in front of him and two behind. The dealer is the one who has the last say in shuffles and cuts. If a player is dealt a pair of kings, he may not fold. However, he may choose to call and use the pair to improve his hand.

The ante is a small bet. This is usually around $1 or $5. It is determined by the table. After a player has placed their ante, they are allowed to place a wager. The player who is the first to bet is the active player.

The showdown is when the cards are shown to decide the winner. If all the players check, the betting ends and the player with the best hand wins. If all the players call, the betting continues. If no one calls, the player with the highest card wins the pot.

The best five card hand is the straight flush. It is made up of five cards of the same suit, in a sequential order.
