Casinos

Casinos are places where people can gamble on games of chance. They usually add extra features like restaurants, free drinks and stage shows to create a fun and exotic experience for their patrons. They also have elaborate surveillance systems that can watch the entire casino floor through one way glass. Cameras can even be adjusted to focus on certain suspicious patrons. Security workers control the cameras from a room filled with banks of security monitors.

Despite these measures, some casinos have had cheating and theft problems in the past. Due to the large amount of cash handled, both staff and patrons may be tempted to cheat or steal. This is why all casinos have extensive security measures. These measures can be as simple as a random spot check by a casino employee to more elaborate surveillance systems in the ceiling that allow surveillance personnel to see everything that happens at a table or slot machine.

Besides security, casinos make money from gambling. However, they have a large fixed cost base that includes salaries for employees and extensive loans for the property. Therefore, the profitability of a casino can decrease faster than its revenues.
