Casino

The number of casinos in the United States is over 1,000, and it continues to grow as more states seek to legalize the industry. As of 2014, there are over 400 casinos in the United States, and nearly forty states have legalized casino gambling. While many large cities are not defined by their casinos, the Las Vegas Valley has more than half of the country’s casinos. The Chicago area, New Jersey, and Atlantic City are among the next largest concentrations of casinos.

Security in casinos can be categorized into two separate departments: the physical security force and the specialized surveillance department. The physical security force patrols the casino and responds to calls for assistance, while the surveillance department operates the closed circuit television system, or “eye in the sky.” Both of these departments work together to ensure the safety of guests and protect the casino’s assets. While there are no universal rules for casino security, they have been successful in keeping crime to a minimum.

While most casinos do not actively track patrons, they do have internal methods for figuring out which customers are most likely to spend money. For example, 70 percent of casino patrons in Las Vegas use a loyalty card to keep track of their behavior. This allows casinos to track data such as how many times a person plays, how much money they spend, and at what time of day. All of these data can be incredibly useful for marketing. For example, if a person has spent time playing blackjack every day for a month, they may receive a comp for it.
