Casinos

The excitement of gambling in a casino has captivated the public ever since the Rat Pack filmed Ocean’s 11 in the early 60s, and the movie’s sequels followed. A casino has thousands of slots and one-armed bandits, glittering lights, and top-notch food and entertainment. Millions of dollars change hands in these establishments every day, and you may even have heard of casinos as a destination for honeymoons, a night out with the girls, or a weekend getaway.

The casino business in Nevada began to grow in the 1950s. Although casinos were illegal in every other state, organized crime figures had plenty of cash to spend on gambling. Because of the casino’s reputation, they didn’t care about the fact that people from other countries were also suckling from it. The money flowed in steadily into Reno and Las Vegas, and some members of the mafia bought a stake in some of these establishments.

The entertainment, food, and drinks in a casino are also a source of concern. Many casinos hire famous acts or pay smaller artists to perform in their establishments. Most casinos have bars where gamblers can purchase alcoholic drinks for free. In addition to entertainment, casinos must keep staff and guests safe from fraud. A casino manager has a difficult job. Casinos are open twenty-four hours a day. While there are always shady characters on the loose, casinos must keep employees and customers happy and loyal.
