While casinos do bring in substantial tax revenue for their communities, the promise of increased employment opportunities for the local population may not be realized. This is especially true for those casinos located in rural areas, where the majority of the workers are brought in from elsewhere. This can result in a higher unemployment rate for the original local residents.
