A player must place a certain amount of chips into the pot. This amount is known as the ante. It is usually a small amount of money.

The initial dealer begins the deal. This dealer is chosen by each player receiving a card from the shuffled deck. When a new player is dealt a card, the dealer can decide to keep it or discard it.

After each round of dealing, there is a betting interval. During this period, each player can raise or fold. Eventually, the bet reaches a limit.

The final round of betting is called the Showdown. If all players check, the bet is stopped.
