The main goal of the game is to make the best hand possible. Players must wager before discarding. Aside from this, players can also bluff their way to victory. Some games even allow wild cards, which can substitute for any other card.

A “straight flush” is a hand consisting of five cards of the same suit. It’s not uncommon to see a straight hand of five cards used as the final showdown.

A high card can break a tie when multiple people have the same highest card. A “backdoor flush” occurs when a player hits the cards needed on the turn and river.

The best possible hand, however, is the trip sevens. You could also say that the best five card hand is the “nuts” if you only have an ace and king.

A player can bluff his way to victory, but he’s not allowed to do so as often as he’d like. On the other hand, a player might hate facing another bet on a scary turn card.

The first round of betting is done in clockwise order. After that, players reveal their cards to see who wins. A player’s winning hand is not revealed until the last round of betting. If there are no callers, the winner takes the pot. If there are, the pot is divided equally among the players.
